Celebrating a New Era of Theater at Nyack High School

We are beyond thrilled to announce that theater arts will finally be part of the official curriculum at Nyack High School! After years of passionate advocacy by the Nyack Drama Angels parents, our dream is becoming a reality.

Introducing “Introduction to Theater with Ms. Gell”

Starting this coming school year, students can immerse themselves in a lively, hands-on course that promises to spark creativity and collaboration. In “Introduction to Theater,” our future performers, directors, playwrights, and designers will learn the fundamentals through:

  • Scene work and monologues – Dive into character development and emotional expression.

  • Playwriting and theater games – Explore storytelling and spontaneity in a fun group setting.

  • Acting and directing – Bring stories to life, step into different perspectives, and learn how to guide others on stage.

  • Costumes, sets, lighting, and sound design – Discover the magic that happens behind the scenes and see how every element works together to create a captivating performance.

  • Real-world connections – Link theater to culture, history, and current events, broadening students’ understanding of the world around them.

This course will challenge students to perform, analyze, and collaborate—all while fostering valuable communication and teamwork skills.

Why This Matters

At Nyack Drama Angels, we firmly believe that theater isn’t just about standing in the spotlight; it’s about personal growth and community. A robust theater program helps students build confidence, empathy, and the ability to work as an ensemble—skills that carry into every aspect of their lives.

A Heartfelt Thank-You

This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless dedication of Nyack Drama Angels parents, who have supported and championed the cause for years. And, of course, our deep gratitude goes to Principal Nicole Saieva, whose vision and support brought this long-awaited program to life. Her commitment to enriching Nyack High School’s arts curriculum will benefit countless students for years to come.

Looking Ahead

We can’t wait to see our students exploring scripts, designing costumes, and discovering their creative voices on stage. More importantly, we’re excited to watch them grow into thoughtful, resourceful, and empathetic young adults.

Stay tuned for upcoming shows, performances, and ways you can get involved! As always, thank you for your continued support in nurturing the arts in our community—and here’s to many more standing ovations in Nyack’s future!
